Who We Are¶

D8 is a relationship platform built and operated by D8 Software, LLC, a Missouri limited liability company. We connect people through our Singles, Friends, and ENM (ethical non-monogamy) communities, and we take the trust you place in us seriously.

When you use D8, you're sharing information that matters to you — including some that is deeply personal. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do — and don't do — with it.

What We Collect¶

To create a D8 account, you'll provide:

Name and contact information — your name, email address, and phone number
Date of birth — to verify you meet our age requirement; your date of birth cannot be changed once your account is created
Photos — a minimum of two photos are required; these are always public on your profile
Physical attributes — height and body shape
Ethnicity
Gender identity
Sexual identity
Relationship status
Hometown — the city or region you identify as home; this is distinct from your physical location

We collect this information because it is foundational to how D8 works. Matching within our communities depends on it.

Sensitive Information¶

Some of what we collect at signup — specifically ethnicity, gender identity, and sexual identity — is considered sensitive personal information under applicable privacy laws. We collect these categories because they are core to how D8 connects people. We use them only to power your D8 experience and never sell them or share them with advertisers.

Pulled From Your Device¶

Some information originates from your device rather than being entered by you directly:

Language preferences — D8 defaults to the language settings on your device; you can change this at any time in the app's settings
Approximate location — if you use location-based features, D8 accesses your device's location to show you relevant matches nearby; we do not track your precise location in the background
Diagnostic and device data — standard information about your device and app environment used for performance monitoring and platform safety

Optional Profile Information¶

Beyond the basics, you can choose to share more about yourself. None of the following is required, and you can update or remove it at any time:

Additional photos — beyond the two required public photos, you may add more; D8 Premium members can designate additional photos as private, visible only to members you have mutually connected with
Religious beliefs
Political views
Lifestyle details — including diet, exercise habits, and recreational consumption preferences such as alcohol or cannabis use
Family preferences — whether you have children or want them

Providing optional information is entirely your choice. More detail generally leads to better matches, but the decision is yours.

Generated by Your Activity¶

As you use D8, we collect information produced by your interactions:

Messages — the conversations you have with other members through D8's chat feature, including any images exchanged within those conversations
Matches and interactions — who you've connected with, liked, or passed on
Reported content — if you report another member, we retain that information for safety purposes; reports are not disclosed to the person being reported
Support communications — if you contact us for help, we keep a record of that exchange

Payment Information¶

If you subscribe to D8 Premium, our payment processor handles your billing details directly. We receive only a confirmation that the transaction was completed and the details needed to manage your subscription. We do not store your full payment card information.

How We Use Your Information¶

We use the information we collect to:

Run the platform — create and manage your account, display your profile, and power the matching features
Connect you with others — our matching algorithms use your profile details and preferences to suggest relevant people within each community
Deliver messages — so your conversations reach the right person
Keep D8 safe — detect fraud, scam accounts, and content that violates our guidelines; we use automated tools as part of this process; location data may also be used as one of several signals to identify accounts operating outside their claimed geographic area
Verify your identity — we verify your phone number at registration to help protect real users from fake accounts
Process payments — to manage your D8 Premium subscription
Communicate with you — to send account notifications, respond to your support requests, and let you know about important changes
Improve the platform — to understand how D8 is being used and where we can make it better

We do not use your information to serve you ads. D8 is subscription-supported and we have no advertising relationships that have access to user data.

Your Privacy Spheres¶

D8 is built around separate communities — Singles, Friends, and ENM. These are not just categories; they are privacy-isolated spheres. This means:

Your activity and profile visibility in one sphere is not shared across others
Matches, conversations, and preferences within a sphere stay within that sphere
You control which spheres you participate in

This is a structural feature of how D8 is built, not just a policy promise.

With Other Members¶

Your profile is visible to other D8 members within the communities you've joined. You control what goes on your profile and can adjust your visibility settings at any time.

Your messages are shared only with the person you're talking to.

You can block another member at any time. When you block someone, you become invisible to each other across D8 — they will no longer appear in your experience and you will no longer appear in theirs.

With Service Providers¶

We work with a small number of trusted companies to operate D8. These providers access your information only to perform services on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for any other purpose:

Cloud infrastructure — we host D8 on secure, industry-standard cloud infrastructure
Content moderation — we use automated tools to review images and messages for content that violates our guidelines
Payment processing — a third-party payment processor handles billing for D8 Premium subscriptions

When Required by Law¶

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

What We Don't Do¶

We do not sell your personal information
We do not share your information with advertisers
We do not share data across Spheres

How We Protect Your Information¶

We take the security of your data seriously. D8 uses industry-standard measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, including:

Encrypted data transmission (TLS)
Secure cloud infrastructure
Access controls that limit who within D8 Software can access user data

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach that affects your data, we will notify you as required by law.

How Long We Keep Your Information¶

When You Delete Your Account¶

Deleting your account triggers an immediate first phase and a longer-term retention phase for safety purposes.

Immediately upon deletion:

Your personal information — name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and similar identifying details — is severed from your account record
Your profile photos are removed from public view
Your profile is removed from discovery and matching
Your presence in existing chat conversations is replaced with "Terminated Account"; those records are not interactive and cannot be clicked or contacted

Images exchanged within chat conversations are treated as shared content between participants and are not deleted when an account is closed, consistent with standard practice on messaging platforms.

The "Terminated Account" label remains visible in chat lists for a period of time before fading from view. The underlying conversation history is retained as described below.

Safety retention:

Dating platforms are required by law to report certain content to authorities, and we have an obligation to maintain records that support fraud prevention, abuse detection, and safety investigations. For these reasons, account and profile records — including suspension history, block history, reports, conversation records, and profile images — are retained for up to five years after account deletion. This data is held securely, is not used for any commercial purpose, and is not accessible through normal app functions.

Your phone number and email address may also be retained within this safety record to help us identify bad actors who attempt to create new accounts after being removed from D8.

If You Are Suspended or Removed¶

If your account is suspended or terminated by D8 for a violation of our guidelines, your account and profile records are retained for safety and fraud prevention purposes on the same five year timeline described above.

Your Rights¶

You have rights over your personal information. Depending on where you live, these may include:

Access — you can request a copy of the information we hold about you
Correction — you can update most of your information directly in the app; if something needs our help, contact us
Deletion — you can delete your account at any time through the app, which removes your identifying information immediately and removes your profile photos from public view; profile images and other records are retained for safety purposes as described above
Portability — you can request a copy of your data in a portable format

California Residents¶

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you additional rights:

The right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
The right to delete your personal information — note that some data may be retained under the fraud prevention and safety exceptions permitted by the CCPA
The right to opt out of the sale of your personal information — D8 does not sell personal information
The right to non-discrimination — we will not treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights

Age Requirement¶

D8 is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use D8. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account and delete their data.

If you believe a minor has created an account on D8, please use the in-app report feature and select "Underage" as the reason.

Changes to This Policy¶

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we'll let you know — either through the app or by email — before the changes take effect. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.

Your continued use of D8 after a policy update means you accept the updated policy.
